The Beagle breed is a member of the hound group and is a scent hound used for tracking rabbit, hare and similar game. Similar dogs have been used by man for over two millennia, but the modern day Beagle breed was created in the United Kingdom during the early 19th century.

Today, the Beagle is not only used for hunting, it is known to be an excellent detection dog as well. Beagles are for instance employed by customs to detect unlawful imports. The Beagle is also en excellent pet since it is even tempered and relaxed.
