Bloodhound Resources

The Bloodhound was specifically developed in order to track humans and it is still an important part of many rescue missions around the world. It can for instance be used to track lost children and elderly persons, as well as escaped prisoners and suspected criminals. The Bloodhound is also known as the St. Hubert Hound and according to legend it was developed by monks at the St. Hubert Monastery in Belgium for over thousand years ago. A bloodhound can follow a scent that is many hours or even days old, and it is persistent enough to keep tracking over vast distances. Unlike most other scent hounds, the bloodhound is silent while tracking. It usually works alone together with its handler, but packs of bloodhounds are sometimes employed in the United Kingdom.
