Dachshund Resources

The Dachshund originates from Germany where it was bred to hunt badgers. The name actually means badger dog in German. In addition to badgers, this small dog is excellent for hunting a wide range of other burrow-dwelling animals. The miniature Dachshund was specially bred to hunt rabbits. The Dachshund is very playful and it loves to chase small animals, toys and sticks. Since the Dachshund is long and narrow, with small legs, it is sometimes referred to as Hot Dog, Sausage Dog or Wiener Dog. Some dog owners dislike these names and find them derogatory, while others use them in a very affectionate fashion. If you want to find out more about the Dachshund, you can visit some of the many websites dedicated to this breed.
