The Miniature Pinscher was developed in Germany where its minute size made it ideal for keeping rats and other pests away. In Germany, it is known as the Zwergpinscher. The German word “zwerg” means dwarf or midget. Among Miniature Pinscher owners, the dog is often affectionately referred to as Min Pin. When you look at the Miniature Pinscher it is easy to assume that it is a smaller variety of the famous Doberman Pinscher, but the truth is that the Miniature Pinscher breed is much older than the Doberman Pinscher breed. It is the Miniature Pinscher that has contributed to the creation of the Doberman, and not the other way around.
